How do you cover a yard, a dock and a production floor with one system?
By treating them as different problems on one platform. Aisles, loading docks, storage yards and production floors each need different camera placement and different rules, but they report into a single dashboard alongside access control, intrusion and environmental sensors rather than into three separate systems that nobody correlates.
Can I tell the difference between a delivery and an intruder at the dock?
That is what video analytics is for. It distinguishes a person from a vehicle from an animal, and rules can be built for someone crossing a boundary, a vehicle arriving or leaving, or a person loitering. Loitering is usually the one that matters on a yard. See configuring a video analytics rule.
Contractors come and go constantly. How do we control that?
With credentials rather than keys, scoped by role and by time. Access can be granted for the hours someone is meant to be on site and revoked instantly when the job ends, with a record of every door they opened. A key handed to a contractor is a key you no longer control.
Can the system watch temperature or environmental conditions?
Yes. Environmental monitoring is part of the platform, which matters wherever materials, finishes or stored goods are sensitive to heat or cold. As with any alert, the value depends on it reaching someone who can act, so keep the contact list current. See managing your alert contacts.
Shift patterns mean people are here at odd hours. Does that cause false alarms?
It does if the system is armed on a fixed clock. Commercial subscribers on certain plans get a scheduled arming feature built for business use rather than the residential one, and entry and exit timings should be set around how the site actually runs. What does a false alarm cost us?
It depends on the city, and business permits often run shorter than residential ones. Garden Grove issues business permits for one calendar year against three for a residence. Several cities will also stop responding to an address entirely once the count runs high enough. Check your city page.
Who responds when the site is empty?
We do not provide guards ourselves, but the monitoring station can dispatch a private guard, a patrol operator, a response service or the police in whatever order you specify. For an unoccupied industrial site that sequence deserves a real decision. See guard and alarm response services.
Does the alarm depend on the site broadband?
No. Every system we install includes a dedicated cellular connection at no extra cost, so alarm signalling does not rest on the same connection as everything else in the building. See do you do cellular radio for alarm installs.
How do we get footage to an insurer after a loss?
Clips are reviewed and downloaded from the platform rather than from a recorder in a locked room, and the download file format is a setting you can change to suit whoever is asking. See changing the download file format.
Can you take over the system we inherited with the building?
Usually not, and we would rather say so. Straightforward takeovers are rare and normally only simple on systems we installed. What is possible depends on the equipment already there, so someone needs to look before anyone promises anything. See monitoring an existing or third party system.
