Carbon Monoxide Detection
& Monitoring in Orange County

Ordinary smoke and carbon monoxide detectors offer limited protection. You’re safer with Epic Alarm -powered detectors that work with your security system.

We've got this

Professionally Monitored

Your monitoring service alerts 911 for you. If you can’t call for help, they’ve got your back.

Real-time Awareness

Your Epic Alarm’s app shows you where the danger is, so you can adjust your escape route.

False Alarm Protection

Just a burnt dinner? Cancel a false alarm instantly with Smart Signal.

Stop fumes from spreading

If your heat or AC is running when a fire or carbon monoxide leak occurs, toxic fumes spread faster. Epic Alarm protects you by pausing your thermostat automatically when the alarm sounds.

If the cause of a fire is unclear, it can take longer for insurers to make it right. Epic Alarm-powered cameras record and upload footage automatically in emergencies, making it easy to show investigators what happened.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we actually get asked about carbon monoxide detection. For pricing, scheduling and general enquiries, see our general FAQ.

Why do carbon monoxide detectors expire at all?

Because the sensing element ages. A CO detector is not a switch that either works or does not; its sensitivity falls away over years until it is still on the ceiling, still lit, and no longer reliably detecting what it is there to detect. That is why replacement is on a schedule rather than on failure. See the lifespan of your detectors.

Because the ten years starts at the factory. By the time a device has been through manufacturing and distribution and onto your ceiling, it typically has seven to nine years of that life left, and only very occasionally just over nine. We would rather tell you that up front than have you discover it in year eight. See the lifespan of your detectors.

Start with the battery, which is the most common cause and usually the end of it. If you have already replaced the battery and the chirping continues, the detector has most likely reached end of life and needs replacing. See my detector keeps beeping.

The central station is alerted so help can be requested even if nobody in the building is in a fit state to call, which matters more with carbon monoxide than with almost any other alarm, because the gas impairs the very judgement you would need to react. The app also shows you which device triggered, so you can plan a way out rather than walking towards the problem.

Because your heating or air conditioning will otherwise distribute the gas around the building faster than it would spread on its own. If a CO or smoke detection sounds, the system can pause the thermostat automatically. It is a small piece of automation that does something a detector alone cannot.

Yes, through Smart Signal in the app, without waiting for a verification call. With carbon monoxide we would still rather you cancelled from outside the building than from the sofa, but the option is there and it is instant.

Yes, and the difference is who hears it. An ordinary CO alarm sounds in the room it is in. A monitored one reports the event, shows you which device it was, can pause your thermostat, and can trigger camera recording for the insurer afterwards. An alarm nobody hears is the failure mode that monitoring exists to remove.

The panel tells you if it stops. A loss of sensor supervision message means it can no longer see that device, usually a dead battery, a device removed during building work, or end of life. On a life safety device that message is worth acting on the same day. See what loss of sensor supervision means.

The panel carries a backup battery, and it shows a plug symbol with a red cross when mains power is missing. When power returns it recharges on its own, which can take up to eight hours depending on how long it was out. See power loss and low battery warnings.

Replacement is driven by the device lifespan rather than by a fault, so plan on it rather than waiting for the chirp. Warranty is a separate matter: as a general guide alarm equipment carries twelve months on parts and twelve months on labour, with an optional extended service plan, and your own agreement is the authority. See warranty terms and device lifespan.
