What we do and what we do not. We fit and monitor smoke, heat and carbon monoxide sensors as part of a security system, licensed by the State of California as an alarm company operator, ACO #7125. We do not design, engineer or install fire alarm systems, and we do not do fire suppression. Those are separate licensed trades. If your building needs an engineered fire alarm system or a code-compliance sign off, we will tell you so and point you to someone who does that work.
Sensors for Small Business Premises
Small premises can carry the same smoke, heat and carbon monoxide sensors as a home, on the same security system and the same monitoring. Where a building requires an engineered fire alarm system to satisfy a code requirement, that is a different trade and a different licence, and it is not us. Ask us early and we will be straight with you about which one you need.

Do you install fire alarm systems?
No, and it is worth being plain about it. We fit and monitor smoke, heat and carbon monoxide sensors as part of a security system. Designing, engineering and installing an engineered fire alarm system, and fire suppression, are separate licensed trades and we do not do them. If a code requirement means you need one, we will say so rather than sell you something adjacent.
What does a monitored smoke sensor add over the one from the hardware shop?
A standalone alarm makes a noise in an empty house. A monitored sensor reports the event to a central station whether anyone is home or not. Ours are answered at our own UL listed central monitoring station rather than passed to a third party.
How long do smoke and heat sensors actually last?
Most carry a manufacturer lifespan of ten years, but that clock starts at the factory, not at your ceiling. A device we install typically has seven to nine years of life left on the day it goes up, and very occasionally just over nine. The sensing element genuinely loses sensitivity with age. My smoke sensor keeps beeping. What is it telling me?
Nine times in ten it is a low battery, and replacing the battery stops it. If you have already changed the battery and it is still chirping, the likeliest explanation is that the device has reached the end of its life and needs replacing rather than fixing. See my detector keeps beeping.
Can I paint my smoke or heat sensor?
No. Heat and smoke devices should never be painted, and painting any sensor voids the manufacturer warranty in any case. If the ceiling is being redecorated, they come down and go back up rather than getting masked or coated. Can I paint my sensors covers every device type.
What actually happens when one triggers?
Three things at once. The central station is alerted so a response can be requested even if nobody in the building can call. The app shows you which device triggered, so you know where the problem is before you walk into it. And if your heating or air conditioning is running, the system can pause the thermostat, because moving air spreads smoke and fumes faster.
It was burnt dinner. Can I stop the response?
Yes. Smart Signal lets you cancel a false alarm from the app rather than waiting for a phone call. Cancelling promptly also keeps your record clean.
Will it still work in a power cut?
The panel runs on a backup battery when mains power is lost, and a plug symbol with a red cross on the display is how it tells you. Once power returns the panel recharges itself, which can take up to eight hours depending on how long it was out. See power loss and low battery warnings.
The panel says "loss of sensor supervision". Is that serious?
On a life safety device, treat it as urgent. It means the panel can no longer see that sensor, usually because the battery has finally died, because the device physically left the building during works, or because it has reached end of life. How often should I test the system?
Monthly. That is our standing recommendation for the whole system, and it is the only way to be certain that a device you never hear from is silent because nothing is wrong rather than because it stopped talking. See testing and why an alarm may not reach us.
