Based in Anaheim, serving Riverside County
Serving Southern California
Rancho Mirage, a city of 16,999 people at the 2020 Census, regulates security alarms under Municipal Code Chapter 5.07. There is no user permit, but the chapter sets a false alarm allowance, a service charge, and specific equipment requirements that a professional installer should handle for you.
No permit, but contact info on file
Chapter 5.07 does not require alarm users to obtain a permit.
The code does require current contact information on file (section 5.07.080), so the city can reach someone responsible for the system. The Chief of Police may also suspend use of a system.
Code reference. Rancho Mirage Municipal Code Chapter 5.07.
The Rancho Mirage false alarm allowance
You are allowed 1 false alarm per 30 days or 2 per 90 days, measured over rolling periods.
Each false alarm beyond that allowance carries a $25 service charge under section 5.07.060. The charge could have been updated by a separate fee resolution, so confirm the current amount with the city if you receive a notice.
Rolling periods. The 30-day and 90-day windows move with each alarm, not with the calendar.
Equipment rules in Chapter 5.07
The chapter sets technical requirements that affect how a system is configured.
- A 30-second transmission delay
- Audible alarms must shut off within 30 minutes
- 4-hour backup power
- No direct-dial devices to police or fire
Epic Alarm configures systems with these requirements in mind and routes alarms through our UL-listed central station.
Monitored, not auto-dialed. Our central station handles the call to responders.
