Manhattan Beach requires an alarm permit, $60 initial for residential and commercial.

Renewal is $30 per calendar year, and permits expire December 31. Operating without a permit carries a $190 fine.

FALSE ALARMS

One free burglary alarm a year

Manhattan Beach allows 1 false burglary alarm per calendar year at no charge.

  • Burglary 2nd: $190.
  • Burglary 3rd-6th: $285-$380.
  • Burglary 7th and later: police response suspended.
  • Panic/robbery 1st: $290, 2nd: $435, 3rd and later: $580.

Alarm School attendance refunds one fine per year. Charges can be appealed within 30 days. Six or more false burglar, panic or robbery alarms in a year require documented service or repair.

Panic buttons. Panic and robbery false alarms are charged from the first one, so place panic buttons where they will not be pressed by accident.
