Pomona requires a police alarm permit
The Pomona Police Department issues alarm permits under Chapter 14 of the city code.
Under Pomona City Code Chapter 14, Article VII, the Chief of Police is the issuing authority for alarm permits. To apply, download the Alarm Permit Application from the Pomona Police Department Alarm System Program page. Questions can go by email to alarms@pomonaca.gov with your name and alarm address.
The permit fee is set by City Council resolution. Confirm the current amount and any renewal requirement with the city when you apply.
Share your permit number. The city does not give permit information to alarm companies, so send us your permit number once it is issued.
Two free false alarms, then rising penalties
Pomona counts false alarms over any consecutive 365-day period.
The first two false alarms in that window carry no charge. After that, the code (PMC 14-408) sets the following:
- 3rd false alarm: service response fee only
- 4th: service response fee plus a $156 penalty
- 5th: service response fee plus a $220 penalty
- 6th and each one after: service response fee plus a $256 penalty
More than six false alarms within 365 days can lead to the alarm being declared a public nuisance, permit revocation, and loss of police response until a new permit is issued (PMC 14-407).
Rolling window. Because the count uses any 365 consecutive days, an older false alarm stays on the record for a full year.
Pomona Police Department
Pomona runs its own police department, and the same department manages the alarm program.
Alarm dispatches for Pomona addresses go to the Pomona Police Department. Since the police department also runs the permit and false alarm program, a clean record with them matters for continued response.
