No alarm permit, but a posting rule
We found no alarm user permit requirement in the La Mesa Municipal Code.
La Mesa’s alarm rules are in Chapter 10.100, the Alarm Response User System. Instead of a permit, section 10.100.040 requires every alarm user to do one of two things:
- Post, where police can read it, the name and phone number of the alarm company that provides 24-hour response service, or
- Keep on file with the La Mesa Police Department the names and phone numbers of two people who will come to silence the alarm and check the property.
Users must also keep the system in proper working order.

Four false alarms before a fee
La Mesa counts false alarms over a rotating 12-month period.
Under section 10.100.060, a service fee is charged for the fifth false alarm in any 12-month rotating period and for each one after that. The amount is set by City Council resolution, so confirm the current fee with the city.
If a user has been warned and charged and has more than four false alarms in 12 months, police may stop responding until the user gives written proof the system was fixed and pays the fees (10.100.050(e)). Response then resumes with a new 12-month period. Appeals go to the Chief of Police in writing within ten days of the fee notice (10.100.070).
No response risk. Repeated false alarms can cost you police response, not just money.
