PERMITS

No alarm permit in Apple Valley

We found no alarm permit or registration requirement in the Apple Valley Town Code.

The Town’s alarm rules are in Chapter 11.60, False Police Alarms, which sets service charges for repeat false alarms rather than a permit program. The Town’s adopted fee schedule also lists no alarm permit fee.

The Town’s noise rules require an exterior burglar alarm to stop sounding within 15 minutes of activation (Section 9.73.060), so we set outdoor sirens to shut off automatically.

FALSE ALARMS

Charges from the third false alarm

Under Section 11.60.020, a service charge applies to the third and each later false alarm response to the same premises in a fiscal year (July 1 to June 30).

The Town’s adopted fee schedule lists these charges:

  • 3rd false alarm: $62.13
  • 4th false alarm: $93.20
  • 5th false alarm: $124.26
  • 6th and later: $156.48

Alarms caused by extraordinary weather or atmospheric conditions are not counted (Section 11.60.010). Unpaid charges pick up a 10% penalty after 60 days, plus 1.5% a month (Section 11.60.040). The Town Manager can waive a charge for practical difficulties (Section 11.60.030). Amounts may be updated, so confirm current figures with the Town.
