LA's permit program
LAMC Section 103.206 requires a permit for every alarm in the City of Los Angeles.
The Office of Finance handles permits and false alarm billing. A residential system monitored by an alarm company costs $60 to permit initially and $31 to renew each year. An unmonitored residential system pays no fee but still needs a permit. Apply online at latax.lacity.org, by mail, or at a branch office before 3:00 p.m.
Required. Operating without a permit is a misdemeanor.
Charges start with the first one
LA does not offer free false alarm responses.
Fees effective May 4, 2026 run $260, $310, $360 and $410 with a permit, or $360, $460, $560 and $660 without one. Permit holders can waive one charge every 365 days through LAPD Alarm School. After two false activations within a rolling year, LAPD requires verification before dispatching officers to a burglar alarm.
Reduce risk. Training everyone who uses the system is the cheapest fix.
