Serving Southern California

Glendale, incorporated in 1906 and home to 196,543 people at the 2020 census, stretches north into the Crescenta Valley foothill area. The city has its own police department and an alarm program that rewards a clean record with a free renewal. Epic Alarm installs home security, HD video and life-safety detection across Glendale.

PERMITS

A permit per property, renewed free with a clean year

Glendale requires an alarm permit: $158 residential or $306 commercial.

Register online at glendaleca.citysupport.org or call the program office. There is one permit per property, and permits are not transferable, so a new owner needs a new permit.

Permits are valid for 1 year from issue. If you had no false alarms during the permit year, renewal is automatic at no fee. Otherwise renewal costs the same as initial registration.

Alarm program. (888) 865-9770. See the city’s false alarm fee page.

FALSE ALARMS

The first is free, the rest escalate

For registered locations, the 1st false alarm is no charge.

  • 2nd: $130, waived if you take the online education course.
  • 3rd: $267.
  • 4th and later: $361 each.

Unregistered or expired permits pay more: $361 for the 1st, $478 for the 2nd, and $599 for the 3rd and beyond. Late payments over 30 days accrue 12% annual interest, and appeals require a $50 non-refundable filing fee.

The program counts by permit year, while the ordinance text refers to fiscal-year tracking, so confirm the counting period with the program if timing matters.

Fire alarms. Fire false alarms are billed separately by the Fire Department, for 3 or more in a year.
