PERMITS

No city alarm permit in Laguna Niguel

We found no alarm user permit requirement in the Laguna Niguel Municipal Code.

Alarm rules are in Title 11, Division 3 of the city code: Article 6 (Alarm Systems and Businesses and False Alarms, sections 11-3-600 to 11-3-608) and Article 6.5 (False Alarms and Payment of Costs). These sections set equipment standards and false alarm costs rather than a homeowner registration program.

  • Audible alarms protecting a home must stop sounding after a maximum of 15 minutes (section 11-3-601).
  • Intentionally setting off a false alarm is prohibited, except for testing after giving the Sheriff’s Department prior written notice (section 11-3-701).
FALSE ALARMS

Costs start at the third false alarm

Laguna Niguel counts false alarms by calendar year.

Under section 11-3-700, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department collects costs from the subscriber or operator of any alarm system that signals three or more false alarms within a calendar year. The costs are the Sheriff’s Department’s costs of responding, and the amount is set by City Council resolution (section 11-3-703).

Because the amount is set by resolution and can change, confirm the current false alarm fee with the city or Laguna Niguel Police Services.

Two free calls. Under the code, costs apply from the third false alarm in a calendar year, so the first two do not trigger the charge.
