Based in Anaheim, serving Orange County
Serving Southern California
Aliso Viejo incorporated in 2001 and grew as a master-planned community on former Moulton Ranch land, with the Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park along its edge. Epic Alarm designs and installs home security, video and life-safety systems here, then monitors them 24/7 from our own UL-listed central station.
Is an alarm permit required in Aliso Viejo?
The city’s false alarm chapter does not set up an alarm permit.
Aliso Viejo Municipal Code Chapter 8.34 covers false alarms and cost recovery, and it contains no permit requirement. Because local rules can change, we check the current requirements for your address before we install.
Code reference. Chapter 8.34, sections 8.34.010 through 8.34.030, is posted online.
Two free false alarms each calendar year
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department recovers its costs starting with the third false alarm in a calendar year.
Those costs are set by Orange County Board of Supervisors resolution. A 2025 Sheriff’s Department cost study put the county rate at $209 per response, up from $141, effective July 1, 2025. Confirm the rate that applies to your address with the city or OCSD.
- False alarms caused by an earthquake, extraordinary weather or another act of God are excluded.
- Intentionally setting off a false alarm, other than testing with prior notice to OCSD, is a misdemeanor.
Testing tip. Call ahead to OCSD before testing so a planned test is not treated as a false alarm.
Policing by the Orange County Sheriff's Department
Aliso Viejo contracts with OCSD, and the municipal code names OCSD as the responding agency.
When our central station verifies an alarm, the dispatch request goes to the Sheriff’s Department. Good zone setup and user training cut down on calls that end up counting against your yearly allowance.
Our part. Our UL-listed central station handles the alarm signal 24/7 and contacts you and dispatch.
